For Schools Ltd, orignally known as Street Dance Workshops, was established in 1991. In that time we have grown to become the largest provider of workshops in the country. Street Dance Workshops became a limited Company in 1999 but due to the large variety of educational workshops we now offer, we underwent a change of name to simply become For Schools Ltd. With an expanding workforce we are able to support schools in a number of ways, offering a smooth reliable service to all our customers.

The lion is traditionally regarded as a guardian creature in many Asian cultures. The Lion Dance is performed in many Asian countries like China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore, with each country possessing their own distinct styles and purposes. Lion Dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture in which performers mimic the lion's movements in a lion costume. Usually performed by martial arts schools, the dance symbolizes good fortune, prosperity and longevity. Lion Dances now appear in the West during Chinese festivals, particularly Chinese New Year, as well as at other multi-cultural events.

Samba drum is an exciting and vibrant expression of the percussive rhythms of South America. A traditional samba band consists of various different percussion instruments all differing in size and the sounds they produce. The south American bands are highly disciplined and energetic groups, each instrument having a very specific role to play. The powerful and hypnotic sound of the big drums captures the vitality of Brazilian culture and produces an exciting fusion of rhythm and movement. Our workshops provide inexperienced players with the expert tuition and support that can make them sound like an exciting drumming ensemble. In recent years Bollywood has grown in popularity with people of all ages and cultures participating. Bollywood films are full of dancers with glamorous costumes performing elaborate and dynamic dance sequences to songs and music that tell a dramatic story. Bollywood is fusion of various elements such as Bhangra, Pop, r&b and traditional Indian performing arts. Bhangra is the traditional music of Punjab, the north-Indian region whose people have a long history of migration both inside and outside India. For Schools offer funky and energetic dance classes using both traditional and modern Indian dance techniques. Pupils will benefit from our highly experienced teachers extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for commercial Indian culture and its style of music and dance. Capoeira is a Brazilian Art Form, which combines elements of dance, play and ritualistic fighting. Capoeira is a celebration of life in the face of everyday struggle. It develops confidence, combined with a strong feeling of centre and balance. Capoeira's circular and evasive movements, combined with its rich tradition of music and song, place it firmly in the category of art form. Capoeira games require the grace and agility of a dancer, with the strength and skill of a warrior. Hip Hop dancing combines some basic break dance moves with urban street dance and African cultural dances; it’s a fantastic way to keep fit and stimulates the participant’s minds as they learn and remember complex sequences. Artists such as Justin Timberlake, Madonna and Usher use hip hop choreography in their music videos. This has created a huge youth following and inspires students with a willingness to take part. Hip Hop’s growing popularity makes this style extremely popular with pupils of all ages. For many leading artists hip hop is not just a dance form but a way of life. Ballroom goes back to the late 18th century started as a social and recreational form of dance. Over the years different dances have evolved such as Waltz, Quickstep, foxtrot, Cajun, Hustle, Tango, Argentine Tango, Polka. These dances are still considered social but many competitions and shows now use this flamboyant style of dance. Recently ballroom dance has been in the lime light on a variety of television shows, capturing the flare and elegance of these visually exciting styles. Because of these programmes the popularity for ballroom has risen in the last two years now everyone wants to get involved. Stars such as Fat boy slim, Scooter and Robert miles have made DJing even more popular with youth culture. The DJ scene is forever expanding and evolving. Our workshops deliver a golden opportunity for pupils to meet DJ’s from the industry watch them perform and ask key questions. For schools give pupils a great introduction to the equipment, techniques, terminology and ethos of the modern DJ. Whether it is Garage, Drum and Bass, House or R & B, DJ culture has the power to motivate, engage and encourage even the most difficult of students in creative music making.

African drumming is more than just rhythm. Drumming is used: to bring together communities, to celebrate, to worship, during rituals, as a means of communication, to relieve stress and anxiety. Drumming and rhythm is a universal language, an inclusive activity that everyone can enjoy and take part in. It affects us physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually and can be profoundly uplifting. Our practitioners energise and motivate your pupils and staff. Our workshops encourage teamwork, fun, expression and improvisation. MC'ing is the art of rapping. MC stands for ‘master of ceremonies’ and that is exactly what MC’s were. Early rappers were there to host the party. While the DJ’s are playing sets MC’s would get the crowd going by shouting things like, “Throw your hands in the air / and wave them like you just don’t care!” This was known as ‘rapping to the crowd’. Today MC'ing is a big part of youth culture allowing people to express issues important to them.During our workshops your pupils will be given an introduction to the background of MC'ing and learn the importance of vocal exercises. Our experienced artists offer guidance and support giving pupils structure; enabling them to write their very own lyrics.

This workshop can really open your eyes, letting you see how much more there is to photography then you may think. Being taught different techniques you can find out what a camera can really reveal. By using different angles you can attempt to find that perfect snap shot. Overall this workshop teaches you a great skill that is used in everyday life and seems to bring own your creative side. After participating you never be able to snap a normal photo again!

COMIC DESIGN - Since the first true comic book , ‘The Yellow Kid’ was published in 1896 right up to the present day with such artworks as Batman™ and Spiderman™, children’s imaginations have been inspired by the exciting, dramatic and vivid adventures of these enigmatic characters.

For Schools offer your pupils an insight into the magic of comic book style illustration. Your pupils will learn the secrets of producing their own graphic novel including character design, pencilling, inking and colouring. These creative workshops can be used as part of your schools curriculum and deliver the knowledge to continue further study within school.

Our fantastic art workshops can be accessed many different ways we can tailor the workshops to the needs of your school using a theme or topic. Working with your pupils on individual projects or a group piece, our artists bring their professional creative edge to the workshops.

Graffiti is used to communicate social and political messages, and as a form of advertising. It is also considered a modern art form, and can be seen in galleries around the world. Our interactive workshops are designed to allow pupils to showcase their talents, meet professional graphic artists and ask key questions. During the workshop pupils will design their own graffiti piece enabling them to express feelings or issues they feel strongly about. They will also learn various graffiti art techniques. Pupil’s art work can be combined to create an exhibition to be displayed within school.

This creative and enjoyable workshop allows self expression as the pupils design and make their own piece of jewelry, the business side of hand made jewelry can also be approached depending on the project. For schools can tailor the session to meet the schools needs.

Junk Puppets are a truly Eco Friendly art form. Everyday objects become incorporated into a puppet that may be moved by hand, string or rod. This includes boxes, socks, egg cartons and paper plates. These puppets can then be used for a drama based performance.

For Schools provide workshops in school time. These can be a different and practical way of delivering subjects within the curriculum. Our highly experienced practitioners provide first class input into your timetable including P.E, the arts, creative art, technology, science and important social issues such as bullying and peer pressure.

Workshops during Curriculum time are a great way of creating a different approach to learning; they help teachers and staff within your school and actively involve pupils not normally known for their enthusiasm.

Schools also use our services to deliver PPA time, GCSE/A Level project and exam work.

After School Clubs

For Schools offer a great range of after school clubs, giving schools plenty of options and variety for its extra curricular time table. Our engaging sessions can be used to attract pupils to new clubs and activities.

After school clubs give pupils the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge over several sessions, with the support and technical skills of our workshop leaders.

Clubs can be tailored to meet the requirements of the school and pupils. At the end of each term the achievements of the pupils can be viewed in a performance or installation.

Evening Sessions

Evening Sessions are a great way of integrating the school in the community. Pupils, parents and surrounding youngsters can benefit from our fun, sociable and educational workshops bringing a greater sense of community.

These sessions have often been used for youth clubs, Parent and pupil clubs, Pre school classes and adult social and team building exercises.
